Meshes of the Afternoon

This film, made in 1943 by female director Maya Deren, was easilly one of the worst, yet more interesting films i have seen in this Short Films class. The film was horrible in my opinion because i didn’t understand it, and found it very hard to get through with the confusing camera angles and odd sounds that seemed to be repetitive. However, i found it to be interesting for the same reasons. The odd sounds and angles i think were there to produce a feeling of anxiety, just like the women in the film was feeling. I also think that it was made as confusing as it was so there would always be discussion and talk about what the film was suppoused to mean. A film is very fun if it’s meaning can be decided in a matter of minutes or hours. This film is still talked about to this day, which makes is successful as far as my opinion goes.
